An event in Penfield Saturday focused on letting people know some local outdoor places that are great for hiking.
The second annual Hikers Jamboree featured representatives from different local hiking programs. Most cities and towns offer hiking programs, but there are also several membership-based programs that people may not be aware of.
Organizers say hiking is a great way for people to get some exercise and reduce stress.
Nelson Carman, chairman of Penfield Trails Committee, said, "Well a little hike is a perfect thing, but they need to know where to go. Are there trails ready for them, can they get into some very interesting natural habitats, so we do have the programs that will get them there. If they can't find the trails we'll get them to the trails."
Organizers say escorted programs are a great way for people to learn about the habitats, enjoy the hike and learn where to go next.
