Students from School 42 spent part of the day with members of the Rochester Police Department to celebrate Black History Month.

The sixth graders were invited by Chief James Sheppard after winning a poster contest for bullying awareness.

The students gathered at the Public Safety Building where they took a tour, played games and ate lunch with officers.

The chief says the event helps start and build positive relationships between students and law enforcement.

"We value those relationships. We want them to come here when it's positive as opposed to a negative event and we're hoping that they enjoy the visit and continue with the relationship that we've established," said Chief James Sheppard, Rochester Police Department.

The Rochester Police Department has been engaging in events with School 42 throughout the school year.
