The man accused of killing his own son by dropping a truck on him pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of second-degree murder.

Karl Karlsen was arraigned Monday on the murder charges and an insurance fraud charge in Seneca County Court.

Karlsen is accused of crushing his son Levi back in 2008 by crushing Levi under the truck he was working on.

Both prosecutors and attorneys say, this is an intriguing case.

“This crime was very unusual. It’s never happened before as far as I know in Seneca County. A father allegedly kills a son for insurance proceeds,” said Barry Porsch, District Attorney.

“My client is presumed innocent of any criminal charges regarding the circumstance,” said Lawrence Kasperek, defense attorney. “Somebody, either a coroner or a medical examiner, determined this was an accident. There must be some reason that the District Attorney’s Office changed its perspective on it. We’re going to get to the bottom of it.

Porsch tells YNN this is the first murder case prosecuted in Seneca County in more than eleven years.
