The event is one of New York State's largest cheer and dance competitions, with nearly 2,000 athletes participating.

Valerie Snelgrove, event organizer, said, "It's an explosive day. It's a way for these kids to come in, show their stuff – it's just an outstanding arena for them."

Athletes that took part in the championships Saturday will also have the opportunity to win a scholarship they can apply to their future education.
