Postal Worker Hailed for Taking Action
A postal worker is now being called a hero for pulling at least one adult from the burning home.
Barb Langdon says she was just doing her job, going house-to-house as a mail carrier, when she noticed smoke and flames pouring from the home on Golden Road. But undoubtedly, her actions were heroic.

"No, I just wanted the babies to get out. I'm a grandmother too, and that's what I worried about," Langdon said.
A postal service truck is not the vehicle we recognize for saving lives. Mail carriers are not normally honored for bravery.
"We're kind of trained to be alert of the houses, and maybe what doesn't look normal, and I saw black smoke coming out of the chimney, which I figured didn't look right. Within seconds, it came out the side of the house."
Today was just Barb Langdon's second day delivering mail on Golden Road. She was working overtime, and had even skipped her morning break.
"I don't even know why, I just didn't today. I just wanted to start working."
She first heard a woman calling for help. Barb immediately called 911. Then she saw arms waving from a window. Then, a small child's cry for help.
"I just ripped the curtains down, put them on the ground, and was able, I don't know how, to get her out of the window. And then she fell on the ground, I took my coat off and wrapped her up."
A hero, but not in her mind. For Barb, only one thing is important.
"Just the kids," she said, wiping away tears.
If you look at a map of Golden Road from above, I-490 is nearby but the home is isolated. It's a dead-end. It's fortunate Barb skipped her morning break and came by when she did. Some might say, it's a miracle.
