Students in the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection spent some time Wednesday evening in a goal setting session. They made posters showing images that represent their hopes and dreams.
The Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection helps combat low high school graduation rates. Three years ago, the University of Rochester teamed up with Rochester city schools and local businesses to create a career support program.
The program builds relationships with the students and gives them the opportunity to work in the health field if they are attending and passing their classes.
"It's really a solution-based program. We've analyzed the challenges but then we really focus on the solutions. And we've found that the solution is to offer life skills, education, to focus on academic success and the resources needed to help the students get there. And then to give them employment experience," said Suzanne Piotrowski, Teen Health and Success Partnerships.
One hundred percent of all students employed by the program are graduating from high school and 88 percent are enrolled in college.
