A new exhibition and Rochester Museum and Science Center explores the history, lived experience and science of race.

"RACE: Are We So Different?" looks at the scientific foundation of race and the evidence that there are more similarities than differences.

Included are hands-on activities for all ages with a focus on 5th grade and older.

The goal is to promote understanding and equality through discussions about racial issues and diversity within the community.

"We are not so different and when you look at the science behind it, you understand that we're much more alike than we are different," said museum president Kate Bennett. "And so there is a science component to the exhibition. There's a history component to the exhibition of how it is we got to this point where we think we're so different. And there's a cultural explanation."

The exhibit is possible thanks to a $200,000 grant from the Rochester Area Community Foundation. The RMSC has a school scholarship fund that will support more than 2,500 students to see the exhibit.

The exhibition is open now through April 28th.

Time Warner, the parent company of YNN, is a sponsor of the event.
