Fallen Firefighters Honored Before Governor's State of the State Address
Before the speech, Lt. Governor Robert Duffy spoke about the West Webster firefighters killed in the Christmas Eve ambush.

Lt. Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kackowza were shot and killed as they responded to a fire at a home on Lake Road.

"They were both taken from us far too soon and both of these men epitomize what the term a true public servant is all about. Our first responders are true heroes as they run toward danger to keep our families and communities safe," said Duffy.

The families of Mike Chiapperini and Tomasa Kaczowka were in Albany on Wednesday. Governor Andrew Cuomo honored the firefighters and presented the State flag to Mike Chiapperini's wife, mother and son, and the parents of Tomasz Kaczowka. They were also joined by the Webster Police Chief and Chief of the West Webster Fire Department.

Duffy said flags are flying at half staff in honor of the firefighters.
