Schumer Hopes to Sway President to Award Firefighters the Medal of Freedom

Senator Charles Schumer says he will urge President Obama to recognize the actions of the two fallen and two injured West Webster firefighters with the Medal of Freedom.

An online petition was circulated, and last week it received the 25,000 e-signatures needed for the firefighters to be considered for the award.

"There is a review process, so I'm first urging the President to begin that review process
immediately and then ultimately the decision is the President's and I'm urging him to make a
positive decision," said Sen. Schumer, (D).

The Medal of Freedom is the highest awarded civilian medal
