Park Finds Creative Way to Recycle Christmas Trees

From holiday decorations to a new layer of mulch. The Tinker Nature Park in Henrietta took old Christmas trees and used them to make mulch for their half-mile nature trail.
The tree recycling event was also a food drive for the Rush-Henrietta Area Food Terminal. It's a program that's been in place for more than ten years. People brought non-perishable food items along with their Christmas tree. Community members volunteered to lend a hand.
"Most people donate food prior to the holidays," said Tim Pratt, Program Director at Tinker Nature Park. "This is a way to remind people that there are people still in need and while dropping your tree off, it's a good way to continue to donate after the holidays."
Pratt said he's had community members tell him that they like the idea of being able to recycle a tree instead of it ending up in a landfill.
