The public service sorority Delta Sigma Theta celebrated its 100th anniversary at a gala Saturday night.

The gala served as a fund raiser for Rochester Alumnae chapter as well as a celebration of local and national accomplishments.

One of the first actions the sorority took 100 years ago was to march for women's rights.

"Well the sorority was started at Howard University in 1913 by 22 young African American women, and their whole purpose was to provide service to the community as it was at that time," said President of the Rochester chapter Musette Castle.

The Sorority has over 300 thousand members nationally.
