Salvation Army Surpasses Red Kettle Campaign Goal
The Salvation Army announced the results of its 2012 Red Kettle Campaign Friday.

The campaign raised $597,000, which surpasses this year's campaign goal of $560,000 by $37,000.

A total of 8,000 volunteers rang the bell to help support the many programs for the poor managed by the Salvation Army. 50,000 people are helped each year through the Salvation Army's Food, Homeless and Emergency Service Programs.

Salvation Army Captain Randy Orr says those volunteers added up to an extra 500 hours of bell ringing for the campaign.

Orr also says good weather before the holidays helped bring in the donations.
