Roads in the area of Lake Road in Webster remain closed today following the shooting death of two firefighters Monday.

Police are still investigating the scene where they say William Spengler, 62, lit his house on fire in order to ambush first responders.

Spengler used a rifle to take the lives of firefighters Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka. Police say Spengler also shot and seriously injured firefighters Theodore Scardino and Joseph Hofstetter. Both Hofstetter and Scardino remain in "guarded" condition at Strong Hospital.

Police say once shots were fired, firefighters were asked to stay away from the scene until the SWAT team could catch the gunman. Investigators say Spengler was found dead on the beach from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Seven houses were destroyed from the blaze. It is unknown if anyone was in the homes at the time of the fire.

Police are also searching for Spengler's sister who is believed to have been in the house when the fire started.
