"I think the snow is fabulous,” said Ruthie Beach. “Any snow in Ellicottville is good for us.”

Beach owns a business in Ellicottville. She says snow is actually what brings people to the area.

“We have two ski resorts, we have all these shops, and businesses all thrive in tourism and so forth,” said Beach. “That comes with the snow.”

At Holiday Valley, resort spokeperson Jane Eshbaugh says the snow couldn't have come at a better time. Eshbaugh says since the ski resort opened last week, they've been making artificial snow. Coupled with the milder temperatures, it's been a slow start. Now with the snow and the mercury falling, the slopes are buzzing.

“Mother Nature came through for us,” said Eshbaugh. “We got about a foot of snow overnight and it's still snowing, more is coming and it's turned this place into a very happy place.”

Chris Hunt is just one of the hundreds of skiers who came out to take advantage of the snow.

“I think we got what they called for and the way that we're located here near Lake Erie, you can see we had sunshine a few moments ago,” said Hunt. “Now we're getting lake effect and down here in this little pocket, you can get 4, 5, 6 inches in a couple of hours off of the lake so.”

What was expected to be the first big storm of the season only managed to dump heavy snow in areas south, with much of Buffalo only seeing a few inches. In some instances, there was more snow on cars than on the ground. While some people are breathing a sigh of relief, here in Ellicottville, when it comes to snow, many say the more, the merrier.
