Thousands of dollars worth of coral was reported stolen from a reef shop in Irondequoit this week.

Owner Tom Wood says a small amount of cash was stolen, along with $16,000 in rare corals, and $6,000 in merchandise like water filtration equipment and protein filters.

He said the burglary took place between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday.

"These were people that definitely knew the worth of what they were taking, they went for the high ticket items for sure. I believe they had been here before and kinda cased the joint and left a window unlocked and came right in through that window," Wood said.

Wood believes whoever burglarized his store knew what they were doing.
