A few lucky kids from the City of Rochester got a chance to Shop with a Cop Monday night.

25 kids, ages six to 14, who were selected by Rochester City Recreation not only got to ride in a police car to Eastview Mall but also received a gift card from the Rochester Police Activities League to help make the kids holiday wishes come true.

"It's awesome. You know, anytime you can engage with youth and the kids can see police officers in a different light, I mean they were just shocked. Even the questions that they were asking us about what we do and why would we want to help them get Christmas gifts," said Sgt. Justin Collins of the Rochester Police Department. "It's just.. we want to connect with them and let them know that we're people. And this is just another way to do that. Police enjoy the holidays and we want to make their wishes come true as well."

Since starting almost two years ago PAL has worked to develop new and creative events to benefit young people in the city.

This is the first year the Police Activities League has offered "Shop with a Cop."
