Crow Flock to Be Chased Away Next Week

Crow Flock to Be Chased Away Next Week
After weeks of complaints, the City of Rochester is once again teaming up with USDA wildlife services to deal with a feathered nuisance downtown.

Last year, an estimated 20,000 crows flocked to neighborhoods along the Genesee River, causing a significant mess. This year they've come back, causing the same issues.

Beginning Monday evening at Washington Square Park, crews will disperse the crow roost by using spotlights, lasers, electronic recordings of crow distress calls, and pyrotechnics.

Officials say none of these methods will harm the birds. They'll just disperse the crows over a broader area.

The technicians will return for bi-weekly sessions until the foul problem is taken care of.
