Since the superintendent rolled out his draft proposal for city school buildings he has heard input both for and against this master plan from parents, students and community members.

The Rochester Board of Education and Superintendent Bolgen Vargas held a "Coffee and Conversation" public meeting Thursday morning. The idea is to allow everyone to look at, ask questions and address concerns about the Facilities Master Plan. It covers district buildings and specific improvements to modernize schools over the next ten years.

The plan also includes renovations to a dozen elementary schools, six middle and high schools, closing schools 16, 22, 25, 36 and 37, and merging some school programs at four other schools. The plan is in the draft stages and changes aren't expected to begin for another two years or more.

A parent advisory council meeting is next Monday at 6 p.m. and the following evening there is another "Coffee and Conversation" with the superintendent Tuesday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. all at district headquarters on West Broad Street.

Public input on final draft recommendations continue throughout January and February.
