ROC the Day Surpasses Previous Year's Total

By: YNN Staff

The 24-hour United Way of Greater Rochester's online ROC the Day campaign has surpassed last year's giving total.

The campaign is a chance to support non-profits in the nine-county Greater Rochester Area.

Donors select from 700 agencies on the ROC the Day website.

Last year's campaign raised more than $567,000. That amount was surpassed with more than an hour left in the 24 hour campaign.

There are more than 700 agencies that are listed alphabetically and categorized by service; from arts and culture, education, religion, the environment, human services and animals. Once you make a donation, you will receive a thank you and tax receipt confirmation email.

The MCC Foundation is one of the agencies to consider donating to. It connects private and corporate donations to support MCC and its students.

"I say all the time if you believe in philanthropy, you believe in all philanthropy. I think that is what the ROC the Day is about is expressing in the community how much individual people can make a difference. This is a remarkably generous community so we expect 12-12-12 is special day and everyone will ROC the Day today," said Diane Shoger, MCC Foundation.

"When gifts come in, we can double the amount and make the most of these gifts. This is really an unbelievable opportunity that the United Way provides to agencies around town to make a really big impact on a day like today," said Naomi Silver, MCC Foundation board member.

Last year's campaign raised more than $567,000. This year they reached $875,000.
