Million-Dollar Grant Will Help Rochester Health Care Center

A primary health care company is providing a grant that will help a Rochester health care center.
Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is donating one million dollars so that St. John Fisher College nursing students can learn and work at St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center.
St. Joseph's is a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph. It's located on South Avenue in Rochester and provides health care to the working poor.
This million dollar grant will allow St. John Fisher to create a nursing center there to provide new patient, acute, follow-up and primary care for an additional 60 patients a week.
The center will provide training for Fisher nurse practitioner students.
"They get the best hands-on experience with experienced community partners that are already here and funded by an insurer, BCBS, who recognizes the fact that this is a wonderful site taking care of an under-served population," said Christine Wagner, Sisters of St. Joseph.
St. Joseph's currently provides health care, education and social work to some 2,000 uninsured people annually. Services are provided by more than 250 professional volunteers.
