YNN is learning more now about a Genesee County Jail inmate, who is accused of trying to convince another person to commit murder.

Earl Sprague is facing second degree criminal solicitation charges in the case.

Genesee County Sheriff's deputies say while he was already jailed in October on sex abuse charges, Sprague contacted people close to him and tried to have them injure or murder witnesses in his case.

This is the second time in just over a year that Genesee County inmates were charged for trying to have witnesses murdered.

"I don't particularly see it as a trend, I see it as a desperate act by people that are looking at serious charges, and sometimes we have enough evidence to go forward with charges, and sometimes we just have a little bit of information and we don't have enough to actually charge or indict someone," said Christopher Erion, Genesee County Sheriff's Department investigator.

Sprague already faces 28 counts of sex abuse for allegedly abusing a child under the age of 11.
