Local Education Leaders to Albany

Local Education Leaders to Albany
Some Monroe County school board members, superintendents, and school business leaders traveled to Albany on Monday. They're meeting with state officials to talk about legislative priorities for the coming year.

About 20 school administrators and board members from Monroe County are on the trip.
They are meeting with senior staff members of the State Senate, Assembly, Division of the Budget, and Education department.

Their stated priorities are mandate relief and ways to change laws to allow school districts to operate more efficiently with limited revenue available.

"Money is always an issue with schools. Last year, the state made a two-year commitment for school funding and we want confirmation to make sure that they will be keeping that commitment. It is much easier to plan when you have two years of money rather than one at a time," said Sue Casey, president, Monroe County School Boards Association.

The administrators have planned another trip to Albany in March.
