It happened near the East Main Street bridge in downtown Rochester around 1 a.m.

Police say they were notified of a man in the water by two kids near the Radisson Hotel. The officer spotted the man caught up in debris that had collected in the river.

Fire crews were then sent to the scene to do a high angle rescue. Crews tell us it took about an hour to pull the man from the river.

First responders say they always train for situations like this and are prepared when they need to make a rescue.

"First of all we train on this all the time, so it's like second nature for us to go over. We got a job, we just go to work, everyone pretty much knows their positions, what our objective is, what our plan is and we just put it into place. I just happened to be one of the guys to go over the edge today and not one of the guys up top," said Daniel Caufield from the Rochester Fire Department.

Fire crews say the water was 37 degrees at the time of the rescue. Crews say the river flow was slow, which helped them make the rescue safely.
