Pittsford Trustees Narrowly Approve Apartment Complex

A controversial new apartment complex is one step closer to reality in Pittsford. However, the vote by the village trustees for the permit was hardly unanimous.
By a vote of three to two, the 167-unit complex and 125-seat restaurant was approved for a stretch of land on Monroe Avenue next to the Erie Canal.
The project has drawn opposition, including from trustee Paula Sherwood, who says the project is too big for the village.
"The canal is a small waterbed. It's not as though it's the Genesee River and Corn Hill Landing which works well downtown, to put that kind of structure in a small village on a smaller body of water. To me, it's not compatible,” Sherwood said.
"There's a need for this type of housing in this area and that type of housing is not being met right now. We're talking high end multi-family within the village boundaries is very attractive to many people," said Chris DiMarzo, Mark IV Enterprises.
The project has been in development for five years. It's next step for the project is to get a site plan approval from the Planning Board.
