Mercy High School is celebrating a huge win by the girls volleyball team. Mercy played its way to a state Class AA championship win this weekend.

The school honored the team with a rally Monday.

Mercy finished the regular season 22-1. They beat Baldwinsville in the state final.

It was a special win for the team because senior setter Emma Falk was playing. She was out last year after being diagnosed with leukemia.

"It doesn't get any better. You are proud the kids and proud of the parents for how hard they work to get their kids involved. But we just were big and powerful and incredibly hardworking, incredibly hardworking," said CJ Denk, head coach.

"It is the most amazing feeling in the world. I mean, to go out and play with those girls and we worked so hard everyday since August and we all feel like we were all able to put it out on the court and leave it all there. This is what we've been aiming for so to finish with a state win is amazing to be able to do it with them," said junior Terese Cannon, who was named tournament MVP.

Senior middle hitter Gabby Vetere was named to the All-Tournament team.
