A Brighton man charged with murder was back in court Tuesday for an evidence hearing.

Maxwell Wyant is accused of fatally shooting his former roommate, 21-year-old Christopher Schoen, in February at a Hartfeld Drive home in Brighton.

The judge heard testimony about details of the incident that Wyant allegedly wrote down on paper and shared with another inmate while in jail.

Alleged statements by Wyant to investigators are being challenged.

"I think it's a clear self-defense case. That's been our position since the beginning. There's been a longstanding dispute between the deceased and my client. He was bullied by the deceased for a extensive period of time. There's no question he entered the home unwanted and confronted my client and it's our position that it was in self-defense," said defense attorney James Nobles.

Wyant will be back in court on Friday.

Nobles says the trial will begin Monday, November 26th.
