A woman charged with fatally stabbing her boyfriend pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning.

Tanisha Davis, 26, was arraigned in Rochester City Court on charges of second degree murder.

Police say Davis stabbed her boyfriend, 35-year-old Montreall Wright, to death on Sawyer Street around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police have not released a motive, but Davis' family and friends say they had a long, rocky relationship and believe Davis is a victim of domestic abuse.

"At this point in time, we're trying to learn as much as we can about the dynamics of what occurred that night. The allegation is that it happened very early in the morning on the 11th and these people were not strangers to each other and we're now in the process of putting together the case," said Bill Gargan, prosecutor.

"He is very abusive. He has his good ways but he's abusive toward women. It's been a couple of weeks ago that I was over to her house and he was just that bold just to jump on her in front of her mother. Me, my son and her child had to jump up on this man to get him off of her," said Mary Davis, Tanisha Davis' mother.

Davis is being held in the Monroe County jail on no bail. She's due back in court Friday morning.
