The International Business Council of Greater Rochester is helping local companies succeed in global trade.

IBC is hosting the 21st Annual Trade Banquet and Expo Tuesday to help businesses that are considering international opportunities.

The U.S. Department of Commerce says that Rochester area exports totaled $5.5 billion last year. IBC wants to help more local companies go global.

The Trade Expo features some local experts on international trade including Harris RF Communications, Pictometry and Sutherland Global Services.

"It is actually pretty amazing what we are able to do. There are two reasons for that. We have a high concentration of advanced manufacturers in the nine-county Rochester region, particularly in the fields of optics, machinery and food and electronics, so they are making the products that other countries want. We also have the expertise. We have the knowledge and base of people who know how to get those products to the right market where they will sell," said Leah George, GRE International Trade Associate.

The Annual Trade Banquet and Expo runs Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hyatt in downtown Rochester.
