It was pretty much a tie between Democratic candidate Dennis Greco and Republican David Bonacchi after election night.

"Dave Bonacchi has 1,239; Dennis Greco has 1,234," said Thomas Ferrarese, (D) Board of Elections Commissioner.

As of late Wednesday afternoon, just five votes separated Bonacchi and Greco from winning East Rochester's Town Justice.

"I predict it might happen. You have two real popular guys in East Rochester. I think two qualified candidates," said Greco.

It was a prediction that put the high school football coach on a roller coaster ride of emotion since election night.

"We thought we won and now we're not really sure what's going to happen and we've been told now there might not be until the end of the week or next week," said Greco.

Meanwhile, it was an outcome that caught his opponent by surprise.

"I never anticipated that it'd be this close because I tried to run a campaign based on qualifications and we thought we had done a good job, but the voter is the voter," said Bonacchi.

The former mayor and police officer figured his resume would have created an easier decision for voters.

"I really had everything going for me so I felt like at the end of the night there was going to be a bigger spread. But there isn't. So now you have to sit back and wait," said Bonacchi.

According to the Board of Elections, the candidates may have to wait until all absentee and affidavit ballots are counted. Ferrarese says that should be done by next Tuesday. He says the official results should be known by November 20th, although unofficial results before then could reveal who's winning.

"Based on that particular race, we might post that race information because people will be watching that," said Ferrarese.

But no one will be watching as closely as both candidates.
