There was just one race this year for the County Legislature and that was in the 16th District representing Irondequoit.

Republican Dr. Joe Carbone, who lost last year to incumbent Vinnie Esposito, was victorious this time around winning a special election over Democrat Stephanie Aldersley.

Carbone and Aldersley were running to replace Vinnie Esposito, who resigned the seat in July to accept a position with Empire State Development. It was Carbone's second straight attempt to win this seat after losing last November to Esposito.

"I think I had a little momentum from the last election, I think that's what helped me a lot. I mean, I just went through this a year ago and I think the people were familiar with me, I think they believed what I believe in and Irondequoit wanted to give me a second chance. I really look forward to representing them, I hope I do the right thing, I hope I do good by everybody," Carbone said.

Carbone says his goal in the legislature is to keep taxes flat, streamline government, and help create jobs.

Aldersley was trying to regain the seat she held for ten years until 2007. She was in her second term on the Irondequoit town board when she was appointed as interim legislator after Esposito resigned. Aldersley was unavailable for comment on this race.

Carbone's victory gives the Republicans an overwhelming 19-10 majority in the county legislature.
