HOLLEY, N.Y. -- A blood drive was held Friday for an Army soldier who was injured while serving in Afghanistan back in July. Cody Coopenberg, 21, is suffering from burns across 60 percent of his body when a generator he was fueling, blew up.

Cody was a firefighter in Holley, and on Friday, the fire department held a blood drive in his honor. Fire Chief Pete Hendrickson said his dedication to the fire department is what lead him to join the military.

"It's kind of like a brotherhood, both in the fire service and in the military service, and I think that's what lead him there. We do what we can to help each other and help our community," said Hendrickson.

Hendrickson said Cody is recovering at hospital in Texas, and said it is expected to take two to three years before Cody will fully recover.
