More than 160,000 people in Western New York have a new bank.
Thirty seven HSBC locations in the Buffalo and Rochester area opened up as KeyBanks Monday morning.
KeyBank spent the weekend in final transition mode to finish up the change over from HSBC to KeyBank.
KeyBank's president in Rochester cut the ribbon at a branch in Monroe County. Customers received welcome kits and transition information to ensure the switch ran smooth.
The branches closed Saturday so the banks could transfer customer information and change signs.
"So between the mechanical part of it; here what's going to go on at the branch and the back room transition was monitored constantly. So we had a lot of fun this weekend because it was invigorating to all of us working togerther," said Jim Carriero, KeyBank president, Rochester district.
First Niagara bought most HSBC branches in the area, but sold off the 37 branches to KeyBank to avoid breaking anti-trust laws.
