Police Identify Oswego Man Who Drowned in Little Sodus Bay
Despite rescue efforts from family members and EMTs, an Oswego man died Sunday after jumping into the water at Little Sodus Bay.
Cayuga County Sheriff's deputies say Marcos Peralta, 27, was visiting Fair Haven State Park with family and friends when he and several other people decided to jump in the water off the East Pier to go for a swim.
Witnesses told investigators that Peralta appeared to struggle to stay afloat, and then began to panic before going under the water. He was pulled ashore by the group he was with, and an EMT who happened to be at the park, performed CPR until the ambulance arrived, but Peralta died after arriving at Oswego Hospital.
Deputies say they are still investigating the drowning. They do say that swimming is strictly prohibited in the area where the drowning took place.
