Hundreds of humans went out Saturday morning in support of their furry friends.
Saturday was the sixth annual Fast and the Furriest event. The rainy day started off with a 10K, 5K, and a one mile dog walk.
The event also included a pet festival, food, live music, and adoptable dogs from Verona Street Animal Society.
Director of Animal Services, Chris Fitzgerald, said the whole event was designed to raise enough money to save some lives.
"This is our biggest, our biggest fundraiser and our projections are to reach $50,000 this year. That's our goal," said Chris Fitzgerald, Director of Animal Services.
Many runners raised money in hopes of finding the dogs permanent homes. The shelter is open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
