A high school sophomore from Genesee County will get the chance to perform on Broadway in two weeks.

Notre Dame High School student Maureen Edwards will perform in "The Jimmies," a national theater competition for high school actors and actresses.

The winner will receive a scholarship and the chance to audition for the theater program at New York University.

Edwards says she is just grateful to get a chance under the bright lights of Broadway.

"I was just so excited. And usually, because you get a scholarship, usually they pick two seniors, and I'm a sophomore and the other guy who won is a junior. So neither of us expected it at all. So they announced my name and you're supposed to step forward, but I just kind of stood there because I didn't know what to do, because I was just so shocked. But I'm just so excited," Maureen Edwards, Notre Dame H.S. Sophomore told YNN.

Last year, another Western New York native went to The Jimmies and won. Shauni Reutz from Wayne Central School was awarded a $10,000 scholarship.
