Vigil for Victim of Deadly Shooting

By: YNN Staff

Vigil for Victim of Deadly Shooting
A vigil was held Friday evening to remember the shooting victim who was gunned down late Thursday night on Wilkins Street.

Family and friends came together to remember 20-year-old Miguel DeJesus.

Police say DeJesus was found with several gunshot wounds on Wilkins Street. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Vigil organizers say the DeJesus family is in shock after hearing of Miguel's death.

“The mother is heavily grieved, she is sick and she is not able to accept what has happened here,” said Maudine Brown-Long, Family and Friends of Murdered Children. “It is such a tragedy, when you see a mother that is sick and she needs to mourn and grieve her son’s death, but knowing the grieving would be detrimental to her health, and I can ever begin to imagine the pain she is suffering by not being able to grieve.”

Brown also is calling for anyone with information to come forward in a way to help cut down on the violence.

Rochester police continue to investigate a homicide on Wilkins Street. It happened Thursday night around 11:00 near the corner of Joseph Avenue.

The 20-year-old victim's family is not sure what happened and why.

Police say the man was found on Wilkins Street with several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Strong Hospital.

The family identified him as Miguel DeJesus. His mother and sisters told YNN he was a hardworking family man. He had five brothers and sisters.

"A good person, a hardworker definitely and for him to go down the way he did was just not cool at all. I would like anybody with information to step forward to find justice for my brother," said Christime DeJesus, Miguel's sister.

No arrests have been made. Investigators say they interviewed several people and are continuing to follow leads.
