Local designers, shop owners, dancers, and members of Rochester's Center for Youth gathered Wednesday at the Culver Road Armory to officially launch Fashion Week of Rochester 2012.
Organizers announced that the four-day event will kick off on the last Thursday in September with a boutique crawl and trunk show.
On Friday, a European-style runway show will be held at the recently renovated Culver Road Armory. Saturday’s Height of Fashion show will be held at the Memorial Art Gallery and Sunday’s Sound of Fashion show will take place at the Rochester Public Market.
“We always like to have interesting venues, venues that are very important to the Rochester community, but again, kind of say yes, we can take this space and make it into a full out runway fashion show but yet allow the community to rediscover the farmer’s market, the art gallery, this used to be the old Armory so again it’s a nice way to really feature what Rochester has," said Chantiza Stern, organizer.
This year, Fashion Week of Rochester organizers hope to raise $100,000 for the Center for Youth. Its programs aim to eliminate youth homelessness by investing in emergency shelter, street outreach and transitional living programs.
