About 350 girls will take part in the third annual Girls on the Run 5K event in two weeks.
The event here is just one of about 170 across the United States and Canada.
Participants take part in classroom work and team building exercises in preparation for the 5K event. Organizers say the run teaches young girls self esteem.
“There's so much pressure on these girls and this just allows them to let loose and to let their true selves come out, and know that they are strong girls and that they are healthy and beautiful girls and it just gives them that inner power that I think young girls really need to grow up to be young individual, young women,” said Molly Huff, Girls on the Run of Rochester.
The run will take place on Saturday, June 2nd at 6 p.m. at the Monroe Community College campus.
