Free Electric Car Charging Station Opens in Penfield
A free electric car charging station was set up to at the Penfield Community Center and Penfield Library.

In attempts to promote sustainability, an electrical engineer and member of the Penfield Energy and Environment Advisory Committee donated the charging station equipment,
and Penfield paid for labor and materials.

An hour-long charge adds about 14 miles for cars like the Chevy Volt, Nissan Leaf, and the soon-to-be-available Ford Focus Electric. The cost of electricity for the charging station is 33 cents per hour.

The free charging station is the first in Monroe County.

Penfield Town Supervisor Tony LaFountain says that although electric cars are still in the early adopter phase, it is a perfect time for the town to understand the infrastructure of electric vehicles. He also says the cost is minimal to the town.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Saturday morning.
