The car fire that claimed a man's life Monday morning in Arkport appears to have been accidental.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, 35-year old Thomas Ames Jr. was killed after his vehicle's engine compartment suddenly caught fire while the car was parked in the parking lot of Arkport Truck Repair on State Route 961-F.

Investigators say the car had been running for about an hour before the fire, and Ames remained in the vehicle that entire time.

The Medical Examiner has tentatively ruled his death accidental and police don't believe any foul play was involved.
