A man sought by police was located Wednesday and arraigned late Wednesday afternoon.
Ryan Weidel, 26, was reported missing last Thursday. Police launched a search for Weidel after they say he harassed an ex-girlfriend last week. Police thought she might be in danger and were safeguarding her.
Police said a stun gun, handcuffs, and a BB gun that resembled a real weapon were recovered from his vehicle. A roll of duct tape was also found.
"We don't have concrete proof of what his intentions were. But there were enough factors in our investigative leads where we weren't comfortable with this being just a missing person," said David Mancuso, Greece Police Sgt.
Brian Green, an Assistant District Attorney, tells YNN that Weidel cashed out his 401K, and that police found a journal with his plans. Green would not elaborate on what was in the journal. Green requested to the judge at Greece Town Court that a high bail be set for Weidel.
"There was information that was brought to our attention from the Greece Police Department which indicated a relatively high bail was warranted," said Green.
Weidel was wanted on a warrant for criminal trespass and harassment charges. He now also faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon.
A mental health exam will be performed on Weidel. An order of protection for the victim has also been issued.
Weidel's next court date is September 7. Bail was set at $200,000 cash and $500,000 property bond.
