As we continue digging deeper into our wallets for a gallon of gas, one man has found a way to keep his cash and save thousands. YNN's Erin Connolly explains.

ROTTERDAM, N.Y. -- As gas prices hover around the $4 mark, many of us are feeling the pain at the pump.

Patti McMillen of Guilderland said, ''I wish I could walk everywhere or ride my bicycle. Can't do it anymore, but you have to get place to place. I know it will keep us home this summer."

But not this guy. Anthony Cimino of Rotterdam hasn't bought gas in almost 5 years. Anthony has a 2000 Ford Ranger, an electric car he plugs in every night. After 4 to 6 hours, the car is ready to hit the road.

Anthony Cimino of Rotterdam said, ''I unplug the vehicle, start it, put my foot on the break, and put my foot on the accelerator, and I go.''

And Anthony has another trick up his sleeve. It's a 1982 Mercedes Benz that runs solely on waste vegetable oil.

This electric car can travel as far as 70 miles but for longer trips Cimino takes his Mercedes.

Cimino said, ''I converted it to run on waste vegetable oil I obtain from Mark's Bar and Grill about a mile from here. I go there I have a beer, we have a few laughs and I walk out with fuel.''

Right now the average for a gallon regular gas in the Capital Region is $3.95. That's up 23 cents from a month ago, and almost a dollar from a year ago. And for all the naysayers out there, Cimino has a response.

He said, ''Yeah it's a little bit of work, but a tank of gas is $50 right now. I'm not doing $50 worth of work, not even close.''

Just proves going green, can save you some green.
