Football Fans Dish on Super Bowl Snacks
On Super Bowl Sunday, it is no surprise that people like snacks, but what is it that people are eating? We hit a supermarket just a few hours before the big game to find out.

"I love the Super Bowl, its America’s sport,” David Scheuerlin of Batavia said.

Whether you're a Colts fan or a Saints fan, there is one thing everyone can agree on:

"Eating, eating, and having family over," Nicole Griffin of Batavia said.

"Having the snacks and being together with family," Jeremy Arnold of East Pembroke said.

Statistics show that almost 15 tons of chips will be consumed during the Super Bowl. So what else will everyone be eating?

“Cheese and crackers and pepperoni," Arnold said.

“Oh we're just going to have some dip, some chicken wing dip," Griffin said.

“We’re going to make lasagna,” Heather Brewster of Wyoming said.

“Shrimp, clams a little bit of seafood. Some other guys are grabbing some things,” Josh Piscitelli of Batavia said.

“Beers, as in root beers. We also have some beers at home. We’re going to get some pizza and wings from the local pizzeria, Pauley’s, and we got a few appetizers like shrimp and some multigrain tostados, so we're all set,” Scheuerlin said.

While it seems like everybody watches the big game, that is not quite true; some have other things to do on their Sunday evening.

"I’d rather stay home and read my Modern Drummer magazine than watch the football game. I’m not really into it,” Daniel Cervone of Basom said.

It’s not everyone's cup of tea, or pint of beer. But for some, it is one of the most exciting days of the year.

“There is no other sport that you can watch that is as exciting as football," Scheuerlin said.

“I think it breaks up the monotony in the winter time. You got Christmas, then you’re wiped out from that, then it snows. You’re destitute. It's something to look forward to,” Brewster said.

It’s not just the game that gets watched. Commercials cost advertisers nearly $3 million for a 30-second spot.

“I can't wait for the commercials,” Brewster said.

"The ads are what make my wife watch! She doesn't even like football. She likes Payton Manning, but she likes to watch the Super Bowl. She has not watched a game all year, but she will sit down and watch the whole Super Bowl,” Scheuerlin said.

And then there's the morning after. Statistics show 6 percent of Americans call in sick the Monday after the Super Bowl.

"I wish it was on a Saturday night. That's the only difference and we would have Sunday off. I'm going to take tomorrow off anyway, " Scheuerlin said.
