Stephen Gionta Signs With Albany
With several NHL stars opting to play overseas because of the lockout, one local player got a chance to stay and play.
The Albany Devils have signed Greece native Stephen Gionta to an American Hockey League contract.
The 29-year-old forward, who signed a two year deal with New Jersey back in June, is eligible to play in the AHL during the lockout because he was on Albany's 2012 playoff roster.
Gionta was a key contributor to New Jersey's run to the Stanley Cup Finals last spring.
If the lockout ends, Gionta would re-join the Devils.
