Rochester native Abby Wambach has been honored with the Rochester Press Radio Club's professional athlete award.
The Mercy High grad led the United States to a second place finish at last year's World Cup, and is currently preparing for the Summer Olympics.
Because of training, she's been unable to travel back to Rochester, but in a recent interview, Wambach told us of the importance the Rochester soccer community played in her success.
"Rochester is a huge soccer community. I think I got pretty lucky that way. I'm not sure I would have gone on to play soccer if I had not grown up in such a soccer prideful city. From that perspective, I could not be more proud to be from Rochester," Wambach said.
Abby recently sat down with YNN at Team USA's training camp in Princeton, New Jersey. Be sure to tune in Thursday for a complete report on her preparations for the Summer Olympics.
