There is still no concession from Republican Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle in the race for Congress in New York's 24th Congressional District, even though the margin of victory for Democrat Dan Maffei has widened.

An error in the numbers for votes in Cayuga County has been corrected, raising Maffei's lead in the race to about 14,500 votes.

Maffei, who lost a close race with Buerkle in 2010 and waited through a lengthy absentee vote count himself, says he doesn't mind the lack of a concession and Buerkle's insistence on waiting for the review of absentee ballots.

"What I understand is wanting to make sure every vote is counted, including all the absentee votes. It's extremely important. It doesn't stop me from doing the work I need to do to prepare to take on these challenges for Central New York. So, really, that's up to her," Maffei said.

Buerkle faces seemingly insurmountable odds in overcoming Maffei's lead. The estimate is she would need more than 84 percent of the absentee votes to go her way to change the outcome.
