This weekend, dozens of women will take to the stage to raise money for the Rape Crisis Service at Planned Parenthood.

The women will perform The Vagina Monologues, first written and performed by Eve Ensler more than 10 years ago.

It's all part of V-Day, a global movement that uses the performances to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence efforts. The movement has raised more than $70 million internationally so far.

"It's funny, it's sad, it's emotional. It tugs at your heart strings," said Anne Blythe, event PR manager. "It's basically a series of monologues Eve Ensler created after talking to hundreds of women about their vaginas. And through those interviews, she developed monologues that talk about everything from sexual abuse to everyday things women deal with when it comes to their personal issues."

The Rape Crisis Service offers support and advocacy for victims of sexual assault and violence. The center says 340 women in Monroe County reported being raped in 2009 alone.

Tickets are being sold at Aaron's Alley, Equal=Grounds, Parkleigh and online. There will also be tickets sold at the door.
