It was a bit cool and breezy Tuesday, but that didn't stop folks from enjoying the Village of LeRoy's newly re-opened swimming pool.
The pool was slated for demolition just last summer, after village officials deemed it too expensive to repair.
A citizen group was able to raise more than $40,000 and save the pool, as well as providing repair services cost-free.
The pool officially re-opened Monday. LeRoy Recreation Director Jackie Whiting calls it a testament to the strength of the LeRoy community.
"I have to say the volunteers. The painting of the building was Jeff Canale, a local painter, did that. We had the local Moose Club in town, they committed people to do it, and that's what happens, you know," Whiting said. "You get the entire community to be involved, they're all committed to provide a service to the residents of the community, and everybody chipped in to make it happen, so it means a lot."
A lease agreement between the Town and Village of LeRoy eased some legal restrictions with the pool. That lease agreement will last for five years before it must be renewed.
