Leaders from PepsiCo and the Müller Group were in Genesee County Friday for the county economic development center's annual meeting.
A $206 million joint yogurt venture between the two multi-national corporations is the biggest development the area has seen in six decades. PepsiCo says access to dairy farms, a competitive economic incentives package and a shovel ready site at the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Park were all reasons the company chose Batavia to invest.
"The Batavia site provided our best opportunity to deliver what would on average be a 30 month project, we’re going to execute this in 18 months," said Mark Koenig, PepsiCo Director of Engineering and Technology.
PepsiCo says the yogurt category is growing in the states by 8 to 10% annually and there's no single powerhouse.
