Murder Charges Downgraded
Charges against a man accused of killing his former roommate have been reduced. Judge Doug Randall downgraded the charge from murder to assault.

A grand jury indicted Maxwell Wyant on second degree murder in February. He's accused of shooting 21-year-old Christopher Schoen on February 8th at a Hartfeld Drive Home in Brighton.

Police say Schoen died from a gunshot. His body was found outside of the home.

The prosecution was looking into the possibility that an argument over property lead to the shooting. Wyant's attorney said the shooting was self defense.

District Attorney Sandra Doorley said she was surprised to find out about the reduced charge and immediately filed an appeal.
